The Choice of Excellence: Why Australian Grassfed Beef?

When it comes to crafting the perfect burger, the quality of your beef is paramount. That’s why I wholeheartedly recommend using Australian Grassfed Beef for this recipe. Australia is renowned globally for producing some of the highest quality, healthiest, and most nutritious beef and lamb available. Their commitment to ethical and sustainable practices is truly admirable, with animal welfare and environmental stewardship at the forefront of their operations. This dedication to excellence is precisely why I am so proud to collaborate with them.

Cattle in Australia are raised on vast, open pastures, grazing on natural grasses their entire lives. This results in beef that is inherently leaner and boasts a superior nutritional profile compared to grain-fed alternatives. Australian grassfed beef is a powerhouse of 13 essential nutrients vital for maintaining good health. These include significant levels of iron, which is crucial for energy and blood health, zinc for immune function, beneficial Omega-3 fatty acids known for their anti-inflammatory properties, and a spectrum of B vitamins that support metabolism and overall well-being. Beyond its impressive nutritional content, grassfed beef also cooks approximately 30% faster than conventionally raised meat, making it a convenient choice for busy weeknights or impromptu grilling sessions.

By choosing Australian Grassfed Beef, you’re not only investing in a healthier meal for yourself and your family but also supporting sustainable farming practices. The rich, robust flavor of this premium beef shines through in these teriyaki burgers, providing a firm and juicy texture that holds up beautifully on the grill. Its natural lean composition means less grease and a cleaner, more intensely beefy taste that is simply unparalleled.

Whole30 Teriyaki Burger Ingredients

Essential Ingredients for Your Whole30 Teriyaki Burgers

One of the many advantages of these Whole30 Teriyaki Burgers is that they call for simple, wholesome ingredients that you likely already have stocked in your kitchen. This makes whipping up a flavorful, compliant meal both easy and enjoyable.

For the Flavorful Burger Patties:

  • 1 lb Australian Grassfed Beef: The foundation of our delicious burgers, providing rich flavor and lean protein.
  • Minced Garlic: Adds a pungent, aromatic depth to the beef.
  • Powdered Ginger: Contributes a warm, slightly spicy note that complements the Asian-inspired flavors.
  • Fresh Cilantro: Offers a burst of fresh, herbaceous brightness, enhancing the overall profile.
  • Coconut Aminos: A Whole30-approved, soy-free alternative to soy sauce, delivering umami richness without the gluten or soy.
  • Salt & Pepper: Essential seasonings to elevate all the other flavors.

For the Zesty Homemade Teriyaki Sauce:

  • ¼ cup Reserved Pineapple or Orange Juice: Forms the sweet and tangy base of our sauce. Pineapple juice from canned pineapple rings is perfect!
  • ⅓ cup Coconut Aminos: The primary ingredient for our soy-free teriyaki flavor.
  • 1 tbsp Rice Vinegar: Adds a crucial touch of acidity and tang, balancing the sweetness.
  • Minced Garlic: Infuses the sauce with robust aroma and flavor.
  • Arrowroot Powder: Our natural, gluten-free thickener to achieve that perfect teriyaki glaze consistency.
  • Powdered Ginger: Enhances the sauce with its signature warm spice.
  • Crushed Red Pepper (optional): For those who enjoy a subtle kick of heat in their teriyaki.

Essential Toppings and Bun Alternatives:

  • 3 Pineapple Rings: The star topping, grilled to caramelized perfection. Remember to reserve ¼ cup of their juice for the sauce!
  • 1 Red Onion: Sliced into thick rings and grilled until tender and sweet, adding a savory crunch.
  • Whole30 Friendly Mayo: For a creamy, rich condiment that enhances the burger experience.
  • 1 Head Lettuce: Used to create crisp, refreshing lettuce “buns” for a compliant serving. Alternatively, feel free to use your favorite regular or gluten-free bun if you’re not strictly Whole30.

This recipe yields approximately 3 hearty burgers from one pound of ground beef. If you’re feeding a larger crowd or planning for leftovers, simply double the ingredients to make 6 delicious burgers!

Preparation and Grilling Tips for Success

The beauty of these Teriyaki Burgers is that components can be prepared in advance, streamlining your cooking process for a stress-free meal. The homemade Teriyaki sauce, for instance, can be whipped up ahead of time and stored in an airtight container in the refrigerator for up to a week. This allows the flavors to meld beautifully, ensuring a deeply savory and complex sauce when you’re ready to grill. Alternatively, you can easily prepare it while your grill is heating up and the burgers are cooking – it comes together very quickly!

When grilling, don’t be afraid to experiment a little. The grill not only imparts a smoky char to the beef but also caramelizes the pineapple and softens the red onion, bringing out their inherent sweetness. Aim for distinct grill marks without over-charring, which indicates a perfect balance of heat and flavor. Keep a close eye on your pineapple and onion slices; they cook relatively quickly. Remember, lean grassfed beef tends to cook faster, so adjust your grilling times accordingly to prevent overcooking and keep your burgers wonderfully juicy.

These Whole30 Teriyaki Burgers with Grilled Pineapple are perfect for grilling this summer! They feature a delicious gluten-free & soy-free homemade teriyaki sauce, sweet grilled onion and pineapple, all served on a refreshing lettuce bun. These burgers are fully Whole30, Paleo, and dairy-free!

Equipment

  • Grill
  • Small Saucepan
  • Small Bowl
  • Whisk

Ingredients

Teriyaki Sauce

  • ¼ cup reserved pineapple juice (or fresh orange juice)
  • ⅓ cup coconut aminos
  • 1 tbsp rice vinegar
  • 1 clove minced garlic
  • 1 tsp powdered ginger
  • ½ tsp crushed red pepper (optional)
  • ¼ tsp salt
  • 2 tsp arrowroot powder
  • 2 tbsp water

Burgers

  • 1 lb Australian Grassfed ground beef
  • 2 cloves minced garlic
  • 1 tsp powdered ginger
  • ¼ cup chopped fresh cilantro
  • 1 tbsp coconut aminos
  • 1 tsp salt
  • ½ tsp black pepper

Toppings/Bun

  • 3 pineapple rings (reserve ¼ cup juice for sauce)
  • 1 red onion, sliced into ½ inch thick slices
  • Whole30 compliant mayo
  • 1 head lettuce, cut into “buns” (or use a regular or GF bun)

Instructions

  1. Prepare the Teriyaki Sauce: Heat your grill over medium heat. In a small saucepan, combine all teriyaki sauce ingredients EXCEPT for the arrowroot powder and water. Bring the mixture to a gentle boil on the stove. While the sauce is heating, in a separate small bowl, whisk together the arrowroot powder and water to form a smooth slurry. Once the sauce in the saucepan is bubbling, gradually whisk in the arrowroot slurry. The sauce should thicken almost immediately to a beautiful glaze-like consistency. Remove from heat and set aside until ready to use.
  2. Form and Grill the Burgers: In a large bowl, combine the Australian Grassfed ground beef with minced garlic, powdered ginger, chopped fresh cilantro, coconut aminos, salt, and black pepper. Using your hands, mix the ingredients thoroughly but gently to avoid overworking the meat. Divide the mixture into three equal portions and form them into patties, each approximately 5 inches wide and 1 inch thick. Ensure a slight indentation in the center of each patty to prevent bulging during cooking. Place the patties on the preheated grill and cook for 3-4 minutes per side. Before flipping, brush some of your homemade teriyaki sauce onto each side of the burgers to create a flavorful glaze.
  3. Grill Pineapple and Onion: While the burgers are grilling, add the red onion slices and pineapple rings directly to the grill grates. Cook them for 2-3 minutes per side, or until they develop nice char marks and become tender-crisp. Be careful not to overcook them to prevent them from becoming too soft or overly charred.
  4. Assemble and Serve: Once the burgers, pineapple, and onions are cooked to your liking, it’s time to assemble! Serve your juicy teriyaki burgers on crisp lettuce “buns” for a Whole30 compliant meal. Top each burger generously with additional homemade teriyaki sauce, a slice of grilled red onion, and a perfectly grilled pineapple ring. For an extra layer of flavor and creaminess, add a dollop of Whole30-friendly mayonnaise. Enjoy your tropical, savory, and healthy summer feast!
