Essential Ingredient Notes for Your Perfect Matcha Latte

Crafting the perfect Iced Strawberry Matcha Latte begins with selecting the right ingredients. Here’s a detailed look at what you’ll need to create this delightful beverage:
- Matcha Green Tea Powder: The star of our drink! I highly recommend using ceremonial-grade matcha for the finest flavor and quality. This grade is specifically intended for drinking on its own or in lattes, offering a smoother, less bitter taste and a more vibrant green color compared to culinary grade matcha. While I personally enjoy Pique Life Sun Goddess Matcha packets for their convenience and quality, any reputable ceremonial grade matcha will elevate your latte experience.
- Hot Water (not boiling): Crucial for whisking matcha. Water that is too hot can burn the delicate matcha powder, resulting in a bitter taste. Aim for water around 175°F (80°C) – just below boiling point.
- Maple Syrup: Our natural sweetener of choice. Maple syrup adds a subtle depth of sweetness that complements both the matcha and the strawberries beautifully. You can adjust the amount to suit your preference, or substitute with honey, agave nectar, or a sugar-free sweetener.
- Unsweetened Almond Milk: Provides a creamy base for the latte. While unsweetened almond milk is my go-to for a dairy-free option, feel free to use your favorite milk. Oat milk offers a wonderfully creamy texture, soy milk is a great protein-rich choice, and coconut milk adds a unique tropical hint. Dairy milk such as whole milk or skim milk also works perfectly if you don’t require a dairy-free alternative.
For the Luscious Strawberry Cold Foam
The cold foam is what truly elevates this drink, adding a sweet, airy, and fruity layer that is irresistible.
- Fresh Strawberries: The key to fresh, bright strawberry flavor. Opt for ripe, sweet strawberries for the best results. If fresh strawberries are out of season or unavailable, frozen strawberries work perfectly well – just thaw them slightly before blending.
- Original Nutpods Creamer: For a rich and dairy-free cold foam. Nutpods offer a fantastic creamy texture without any dairy. If you consume dairy, heavy cream or half and half are excellent substitutes, providing a luxurious and thick foam that holds its shape beautifully.
- Maple Syrup: A touch more maple syrup to sweeten the cold foam, ensuring it perfectly complements the matcha base. Again, adjust to taste.
Gathering these simple yet high-quality ingredients is the first step towards creating your incredibly satisfying Iced Strawberry Matcha Tea Latte. Each component plays a vital role in achieving the perfect balance of flavor, texture, and visual appeal.
Step-by-Step Instructions: Crafting Your Strawberry Matcha Latte

Follow these easy steps to prepare your vibrant and delicious Iced Strawberry Matcha Tea Latte. This recipe is designed for simplicity and speed, ensuring a perfect drink every time.
Step 1: Prepare the Matcha Base
Begin by carefully adding the ceremonial grade matcha powder to a small bowl or a traditional matcha bowl. Gently pour the hot (but not boiling) water over the matcha. The ideal temperature is around 175°F (80°C) to prevent bitterness.
Step 2: Whisk the Matcha
Add your desired amount of maple syrup to the matcha and hot water mixture. Using a bamboo whisk (chasen) or an electric milk frother, whisk the matcha vigorously in a W or M motion until it’s completely dissolved, frothy, and lump-free. The goal is a smooth, vibrant green liquid with a delicate foam on top. Set this prepared matcha aside.
Step 3: Create the Strawberry Cold Foam
In a blender, combine the fresh or slightly thawed frozen strawberries, Nutpods creamer (or heavy cream/half and half if using dairy), and maple syrup. Blend on high speed until the mixture is smooth, creamy, and resembles a luscious strawberry milk. Ensure there are no large strawberry chunks. A food processor can also be used if you don’t have a blender, but it might yield a slightly thicker consistency.
Step 4: Assemble the Base of Your Latte
Grab a tall glass and fill it approximately three-quarters of the way with ice cubes. This ensures your latte is perfectly chilled and refreshing. The amount of ice can be adjusted based on your preference for a colder drink.

Step 5: Add Your Choice of Milk
Pour your unsweetened almond milk (or milk of choice) into the glass, filling it about halfway over the ice. This creates the foundational layer for your latte, offering a creamy texture and balancing the intense flavors.
Step 6: Introduce the Matcha
Carefully pour the whisked matcha green tea into the glass over the milk and ice. Watch as the beautiful green liquid begins to meld with the white milk, forming a visually appealing gradient.
Step 7: Gentle Stir for Blended Flavors
Give the matcha and milk a gentle stir. This helps to combine the earthy matcha with the creamy milk, ensuring a consistent flavor in every sip before the final layer is added. Don’t overmix if you want to maintain some layering.
Step 8: Top with Strawberry Cold Foam & Enjoy!
Finally, spoon or pour the smooth, pink strawberry cold foam mixture generously on top of your matcha latte. The contrast between the green matcha and the pink foam is delightful. For a layered effect, pour it slowly. For a more immediate blend, give it a final gentle stir after adding the foam. Garnish with a fresh strawberry slice if desired, and enjoy your perfectly crafted Iced Strawberry Matcha Tea Latte immediately!

Expert Tips for Your Best Strawberry Matcha Latte
Achieving café-quality results at home is easier than you think with these expert tips:
- Dairy Swaps: If you prefer a traditional dairy-based latte, simply substitute the almond milk with regular whole milk for a richer taste. For the cold foam, use heavy cream or half and half instead of Nutpods creamer to create a wonderfully thick and luscious texture.
- Non-Dairy Alternatives: For those avoiding nuts or specific ingredients, the versatility of this recipe shines. Beyond almond milk, consider coconut milk for a hint of tropical sweetness, cashew milk for a rich creaminess, or soy milk and oat milk as excellent nut-free options that froth beautifully for the cold foam.
- Essential Equipment: A quality handheld frother or a traditional matcha whisk set (chasen and chawan) is indispensable for achieving perfectly smooth, lump-free matcha with a beautiful layer of foam. For the strawberry cold foam, a high-powered blender is crucial to ensure a silky, consistent texture without any strawberry chunks.
- Choosing Your Matcha: The grade of matcha significantly impacts the flavor of your latte. There are two primary grades:
- Ceremonial Grade Matcha: This is the highest quality, made from the youngest tea leaves. It’s vibrant green, has a naturally sweeter, smoother, and less bitter flavor, making it ideal for drinking on its own or in lattes where its delicate notes can shine.
- Culinary Grade Matcha: While still beneficial, this grade is more robust and slightly more bitter, making it better suited for baking, cooking, or strong smoothies where its flavor can stand up to other ingredients.
For this latte, investing in ceremonial grade matcha will truly elevate your drink.
- Preventing Lumps in Matcha: Sift your matcha powder through a fine-mesh sieve before whisking. This breaks up any clumps and ensures a smoother, more even mixture, preventing a grainy texture in your latte.
- Adjusting Sweetness: Start with the recommended amount of maple syrup, then taste and adjust. You can always add more sweetener, but you can’t take it away! Consider adding a touch of vanilla extract to the cold foam for an extra layer of flavor.
- Temperature Control: Ensure your water for whisking matcha is hot but not boiling (around 175°F or 80°C). Boiling water can scald the matcha, making it taste bitter.
Serving & Storage Tips
For the ultimate experience, this refreshing Strawberry Matcha Tea Latte is best served immediately after preparation. The layers are at their most beautiful, and the cold foam is perfectly airy. Storing it, even for a short period, can cause the layers to blend and the cold foam to lose its fluffy texture, diminishing the overall appeal and taste. Therefore, I highly recommend enjoying it fresh!
Want a Hot Matcha Version? This recipe is incredibly adaptable! To enjoy a warm, comforting version, simply heat your chosen milk (or steam it for extra creaminess). Whisk the matcha with hot water as usual, then pour it over the hot milk. Finally, gently spoon the strawberry creamer (it will still be delicious, even if not strictly “cold foam”) on top. This makes a delightful transition from a refreshing cold drink to a soothing warm beverage.

The Wonderful Health Benefits of Matcha and Strawberries
Beyond its delicious taste and appealing aesthetics, this Iced Strawberry Matcha Tea Latte is packed with beneficial ingredients. Both matcha and strawberries are celebrated for their impressive nutritional profiles:
Matcha Green Tea: A Powerhouse of Antioxidants
Matcha is a unique form of green tea, where the entire tea leaf is stone-ground into a fine powder. This means you consume the whole leaf, gaining maximum nutritional benefits compared to traditional steeped green tea. Key benefits include:
- Rich in Antioxidants: Matcha is exceptionally high in catechins, particularly epigallocatechin gallate (EGCG), a powerful antioxidant known for its potential to fight cell damage and protect against chronic diseases.
- Boosts Brain Function: It contains L-theanine, an amino acid that promotes a state of relaxed alertness. This unique compound works synergistically with caffeine to provide sustained energy without the jitters often associated with coffee, enhancing focus, memory, and mood.
- Enhances Metabolism and Burns Fat: Studies suggest that matcha can help boost metabolism and increase fat burning, making it a popular choice for those looking to support weight management.
- Detoxifies the Body: The high chlorophyll content in matcha gives it its vibrant green color and aids in detoxification, helping to eliminate heavy metals and toxins from the body.
- Supports Heart Health: Regular consumption of matcha may contribute to lowering levels of LDL (bad) cholesterol and triglycerides, thus supporting overall cardiovascular health.
Strawberries: Sweetness with a Nutritional Punch
These delightful red berries are not just delicious; they are also incredibly nutritious and add a burst of flavor to our latte:
- Excellent Source of Vitamin C: Strawberries are loaded with Vitamin C, a vital antioxidant that supports the immune system, promotes skin health, and aids in collagen production.
- High in Antioxidants and Anti-Inflammatory Compounds: Beyond Vitamin C, strawberries contain a variety of anthocyanins, ellagic acid, and other flavonoids that provide powerful antioxidant and anti-inflammatory effects, protecting the body from oxidative stress.
- Fiber-Rich: They are a good source of dietary fiber, which is essential for digestive health, helps regulate blood sugar levels, and promotes a feeling of fullness.
- Manganese and Potassium: Strawberries offer important minerals like manganese, crucial for bone health and metabolism, and potassium, which supports blood pressure regulation.
- Low in Calories: Despite their sweet taste, strawberries are low in calories, making them a guilt-free addition to any diet.
Combining these two nutrient-dense ingredients not only creates an incredibly delicious beverage but also provides a wealth of health-promoting compounds, making your Iced Strawberry Matcha Tea Latte a truly wholesome indulgence.
